city hall but today is a very special day that you will learn about as we unfold our agenda and thank you again for coming. i'm going to turn the table over to mayor lee who is going to give some opening remarks. >> thank you. good afternoon everyone and welcome to our turk street emergency operations center. first of all i want to thank everybody. anybody wearing orange gets a special treat in my eyes today. anyway we're still celebrating and i never knew that wearing orange and the giants and sports will be so closely connected to what we do in emergency management but it is and it is for good reason because our city's success is really dependent upon inviting thousands more people here to enjoy our resources here in the city, to tax us a little bit on it, but this is what we do as a great international city. all of you have a very distinct role in all of this and it's my pleasure to begin telling you how proud i am and the months of september and particularly october have all been full of great events, and numerous events, and sometimes on schedules that while we had mentally took

inappropriately by the city, a settlement that will let the city take a look at -- have a good public process and look at what the highest and best use of 14 acres of pristine lakeside land can be at lake merced. as you know the city has been in a rather difficult position with the pacific rod and gun club at lake merced. after many months, some extent years of debate with the gun club i'm pleased to bring forward a settlement that the gun club has agreed to, that will set in place a process by which the rod and gun club will largely be exiting the premises, and much more importantly, be participating in the environmental clean up that needs to be done. for decades the work -- not the work, the activity that happened at the rod and gun club caused significant environmental damage to lake merced, by some estimates over $10 million and thankfully the settlement reached by the city attorney and the puc of the rod and gun club will be participating in the cleanup cost. so i'm pleased to bring this forward, pleased we're finally bringing in i won't say conclusion to the process but beginning the f

the city could do in terms of regulation to help your businesses. we talked about the tax issue. what with each of you say is an issue the city could help with. >> i will start. one thing we would like to see is to make parking easier. we want it to be as easy to share your car as possible, and if you when your car and the renter cannot find a parking spot, that is an issue we need to solve. there are actually great models from around the world in terms of on street parking or some sort of system to not only encourage car owners to share, but also not discourage people from using private car sharing because parking is an issue. we have been piloting this a little bit, and we hope to actually see something come out around parking. obviously, the other issues we have discussed impact any of the schering economy companies. you could also see opportunities to educate the public or just gain awareness for the services through the city and existing programs. >> i forgot to repeat the question, but the question is -- what regulations to the company's what? >> that is a great question.

to serving students as is city college. this particular educational facility, though, has a long history and struggle, a lot of false starts and reboots and now it's here. i've been working on this along with many other people for about 5 years and i just wanted to thank some of the people that i've been working with and i'm not going to mention everyone because there are so many people who have, are responsible for this wonderful facility. but the person i want to thank first is our honorable trustee lawrence wong, who this would not have been, we would not be here if it was not for him. i also want to thank someone who i worked very closely with during the construction of this building and that's our, that's our previous chancellor, dr. don griffin, the chancellor who built this facility through many trials and tribulations but he got it done on time and on budget, which is a wonderful, wonderful statement. i also want to thank some of the board members who, the members of the facilities committee who every year -- every year, every month -- met and followed the progress of thi
